About

What is the Health Ecosphere?

The Health Ecosphere is a multi-partner consortium, at the heart of Canada’s health technology triangle, representing leading industry, universities and healthcare institutions engaged in the rapid inter-disciplinary development and deployment of disruptive technologies that address many of today’s biggest health challenges.

Who oversees the initiative?

The Health Ecosphere is a collaborative enterprise led by York University (lead academic partner) and Southlake Regional Health Centre (lead clinical partner), along with University Health Network.

What are the advantages of joining this consortium?

We promote cluster growth by providing funding, eliminating systemic barriers to access to clinics and community health populations as well as providing business supports to facilitate successful commercialization of new technologies.

We have a successful track record of working across the public and private sectors. From start-ups, to medium-sized business to global corporations, we forge sustained partnerships with academic and healthcare organizations that drive technological innovation creating jobs, enhancing profitability, attracting new investments and expanding global market reach.

We offer a singularly creative process that accelerates innovation through rapid transfer of technological research and development, to commercial products via the integrated “Innovation Pipeline” business model.

We disrupt traditional approaches to improving the health of people/patients and reducing healthcare costs by offering strategic procurement opportunities that enable health technology players to fail fast and pivot in order to succeed rapidly.

What will success look like, and how will it be measured?

The following indicators will be measured to evaluate success:

  • Rate of business enterprise R&D
  • Number of jobs created & maintained – employment generation
  • Number of spin-offs
  • Number of licensing deals
  • Number of partnerships
